Video 1006: Alternating isolations with layered shimmies, turn with brain teasing arms, smooth and sharp hip work

After the warmup and a fun opening combination with chainé turns, we build up to alternating isolations with layered shimmies. There is also a short focus on sideways shimmies. The following combination throws in a bit of travelling. Next, we zoom in on brain teasing arms to use with a turn, which we then use in a combination that has plenty of smoothness as well as a few sharp accents. Lots of variation to play with, enjoy!!

Video 1004: Combinations with arm patterns, a gliding step and “paisley hips”

We start with a fun warmup to an oldie but goodie by Hakim! Then we go right into an exciting combination with traveling steps accompanied by arm patterns. After this we practice different hip accents combined with a turn and a shimmy, adding some variation in the timing as well. Next is a little technique close up on the gliding step, inspired by the amazing Aziza. We add a layer and use it in a flowy sequence. Last but not least, we work on hip drops with a fun variation and smooth hip move which I’m calling paisley hips! Check it out!

Video 1002: shimmy slide, belly pop, hip circles and jewel, masmoudi rhythm

We start the class with a follow-along dancing warmup and a short shimmy practice. Next, we work on a sideways travelling step with a 3/4 shimmy. We then use the stap in a combination which also has some sharp isolations.
The following sequence works with shimmy slides, Suheir Zaki hip downs and belly pops.
The next chapter is all about smoothness! We practice multidimensional hip work with horizontal hip circles, jewels and upward figure eights.
Last but not least, we practice a rhythm combination to both the masmoudi kebir and the masmoudi saghir rhythms. The big one and the small one :) Happy dancing!

Video 1001: warm-up routine, Suheir Zaki hip downs, a smooth travelling step, the body wave

After a lovely warm-up routine (which you can use as a standard warm-up before any practice session), we practice double hip accents combined with two different traveling steps.
Next is a cool sequence of accents with direction changes, followed by a smooth traveling step with different layering options.
We also focus on smooth transitions, Suheir Zaki hip downs and the body wave. At the end of class we practice everything in one combination of 32 counts, which you can adopt for your own drills or choreographies!
